Depending on oil, gas and coal for energy is not prudent any more – fossil fuel resources are neither going to last forever nor are the by-products of energy generation using these good for the environment. Concerns over climate change and global warming have brought about increased government support and are driving increasing renewable energy legislation, incentives and commercialization. India is already in line to be among the world leaders in renewable energy. However, in order to completely wean off traditional energy sources, it is imperative to create avenues where such energy can be brought into mainstream India. What better place to start than urban India? RECITY imagines a future where citizens not only become self-reliant through the use of individual wind and solar power units, but can also give back to the national grid for the betterment of fellow citizens?
